Immigration Court Process in Nevada — What to Expect
How immigration court works, NTAs, hearings, appeals, bond, and finding legal help in Nevada.
Nevada immigration court
Cases from Nevada are heard at the Las Vegas Immigration Court (very high volume); Reno may have hearings via video teleconference.
How removal proceedings work
Bond hearings
Detained individuals may request a bond hearing. The immigration judge sets bond based on flight risk and danger to the community. Minimum bond is $1,500 §8 U.S.C. 1226(a)(2)(A).
Right to counsel
You have the right to an attorney in immigration court, but the government does not provide one at public expense. Nevada does not provide dedicated state-funded immigration legal aid. Nevada Legal Services and nonprofit organizations such as the UNLV Immigration Clinic and Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada provide limited immigration services.
Consumer protection against fraud
Beware of "notarios" or immigration consultants who are not licensed attorneys or DOJ-accredited representatives. Nevada's consumer protection law §NRS 598.0923 may provide recourse against immigration fraud. The state also has specific anti-notario fraud protections §NRS 240.085.
