State SSI Supplement in Mississippi

Mississippi does not provide a state supplement to federal SSI benefits. Recipients receive only the federal SSI payment amount.

Medicaid Coordination

Mississippi has not expanded Medicaid. SSI recipients may still qualify for Medicaid, but eligibility is determined separately through SSI recipients automatically qualify for Medicaid in Mississippi (Section 1634 state); Mississippi has not expanded Medicaid under the ACA, resulting in more limited eligibility for non-SSI low-income adults.

Applying for SSI

You can apply for SSI at your local SSA field office in Mississippi (locations include Jackson, Gulfport, Hattiesburg, Biloxi, Meridian, Tupelo, Greenville, Columbus, Vicksburg, Oxford). You can also start your application online at ssa.gov or by calling SSA at 1-800-772-1213.

✓You can apply for both SSDI and SSI simultaneously if you may qualify for both programs. Many claimants receive SSI while waiting for SSDI benefits to begin.
