State cooperation with ICE
Alabama has no sanctuary policies. The Beason-Hammon Alabama Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act (HB 56, 2011) requires law enforcement to attempt to determine immigration status during lawful stops where reasonable suspicion exists. Several provisions were permanently enjoined by federal courts, but cooperation mandates remain largely in effect. State law also prohibits municipalities from enacting sanctuary policies. §31-13-12
